Cursusinformatie
At first, English seems such an easy language to learn. It does not have some of the grammatical features, such as grammatical gender or cases, that make other languages difficult to learn. And its lexicon is partly Germanic, partly Romance, which makes it easy for native speakers of Dutch and German, but also Spanish or Italian, to build a working vocabulary. However, there is a problem that almost every language learner faces, sooner or later. It is called the intermediate plateau, a period of time when your learning seems to stagnate and you have to put in a lot of study to make only little progress. This can be very demotivating, and we know that motivation is crucial to learning.
The purpose of From B2 to C1 in Thirteen Sessions is to help you climb from the intermediate plateau to a higher level, such that you have the knowledge and skills needed to start training as a professional language user, for instance a translator or interpreter. In the course, we work together to improve your reading, listening, writing and speaking, by providing you with the necessary tools such as practice in vocabulary, English usage (grammar, spelling, and punctuation), and pronunciation.
According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), progressing from the upper-intermediate to advanced level takes a lot of effort: approximately 200 hours of study. At home, you will need to find the time to practise what you have learnt and prepare for what you are going to learn. But you are not alone. During the 13 intensive study days at KTV, we will monitor your progress and practise those skills in particular that are difficult to master through self-study. More importantly, meeting with your tutors, but also with your fellow students, will motivate you to push on. Goodbye intermediate plateau!
